In Memory of the Fallen

Today I'm pausing to thank those who serve and pray for the families who have loved ones who gave all for our freedom in America. May God bless you and comfort you.

". . .mourn with those who mourn" (Romans 12:15 NIV).

The First Weekend of Summer

Most of us equate the Memorial Day weekend to the beginning of summer. Family gatherings. Grilling. Watermelon. Camping. Although the weather is warm [or hot depending on where you live], summer doesn’t actually begin until June 21. But we choose to start summer anyway.

But while we're getting together this weekend with our loved ones, let's pause to remember why Memorial Day, a federal holiday, was established.

Other than scheduling a federal holiday on the last Monday of May so those employees can have a long weekend, this day is to remember those who have died in the line of military service.

So many lives have been given voluntarily for our freedoms. Freedom is not free. It cost soldiers their lives. Their loved ones an empty hole in their hearts and homes.

I hope you will take a moment to remember the fallen soldiers on Monday. Set aside a few minutes to lift up a prayer for their families.

Memorial Day

I hope we, the American people, can take a moment today to pause and reflect thanking God for those men and women who have served our country. Men and women voluntarily give up their lives for us to live free lives.

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You today for the many men and women who fought bravely to protect our freedoms in America. Lord, I pray You bless their homes; bless their families. I ask You to comfort loved ones of those who sacrificially gave up their lives so we can live in freedom today. Lord, I thank You. In Jesus name, Amen.

My brother & I both served our country during the Iraq war in the early 1990's. He was in the navy & I was in the Air Force. My husband served in the Marines. My grandfather served in WWII in the navy. We're a family of veterans. Our blood runs red, white and blue for America. This Lee Greenwood song has always stirred up patriotism in me. I wanted to share it today.
