"We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time." ~~ Romans 8:22 NIVMy heart aches when I watch the news of the devastation in Japan. I confess I turn into a news junkie to keep abreast of current events when natural disasters strike.
My heart goes out to the people affected. We never know when disasters will strike or if it will be us next time.
We only have a short amount of time on earth. James 4:14 states that our life is like a "vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away" (NKJV).
I think about the earth groaning in pains. Does the earth ache like our bodies ache as we grow older? Are natural disasters creation groaning?
Scriptures state that earth was subjected to bondage and waits to be delivered just as the children of God (Romans 8:20-22).
Human nature desires to be delivered from pain and suffering. While on earth we will experience pain; there's no escaping it. But there's only one way I know of to escape eternal suffering--Jesus Christ. He is the way, the truth and the life, everlasting life.
We can hope for what we do not see--the new heavens and earth where there is no more sorrow. But for now, while we still experience the groaning, we can pray, give, and help those in need.

My recurring thought----come, Lord Jesus. The devastation in Japan is horrendous, but is nothing compared to what we will see prior to the Christ setting up His earthly kingdom.
I'm hoping for the rapture SOON!!!
I get very weary in this world of sorrow and pain. I believe time is coming to an end on earth, and God is showing His wrath, and His power, plus many mercies to all generations if people will just look up and see. Through these disasters we must pray that those who do not know the LORD as their personal Saviour, will see that He is real, and will hear the voice of the Holy Spirit saying "come to Me" and they will come to confess Him and be His adopted sons and daughters.
So with Japan, and others, may they know The LORD in these storm of their lives, or come to know HIM and Praise His Name.
The darkness is being revealed daily by His LIGHT in the storm.
May we be ready for His soon coming.
We should love souls and share the Gospel now while there is time. Pray the Holy Spirit to prepare you and the person you are soon to meet.
Beautiful post, Shonda! I believe you're right that the earth is groaning. Thanks be to God that we have Jesus to save us and have the hope that new life with Him provides to sustain us!
